Volunteers

A school built by its community.

Parents, alums, and community members are part of the daily life of Fayerweather. Volunteers serve on the Board of Directors, lead the Parent/Caregiver Association, organize school traditions and events, chaperone field trips, meet with prospective families during admissions, host classroom guest visits, and share their talents and interests with our children. Much of the richness and vitality of our school comes from the time, energy, and care that families bring to it.

If you are a current Fayerweather family looking to get involved, the full list of committees, events, and volunteer opportunities can be found on the parent portal. Or reach out directly to Ann Eggleston, Director of Advancement & Community Engagement.

If you are a prospective family wondering what community life looks like here, the short answer is: it is the school. Here are some of the structures and traditions that hold it.

Parent/Caregiver Association (PCA)

The PCA is the bridge between families, administration, and faculty. Every parent and caregiver is a member. Each classroom or grade band has two or more representatives who organize community events, support classroom activities, welcome new families, and keep their grade band connected. The Association is led by one or two parent chairs who meet regularly with the Head of School and the School Leadership Team. The PCA also collaborates with the school on Parent/Caregiver Education events, deepening the partnership between families and the school's pedagogy.

Admissions Ambassadors

Current Fayerweather families volunteer to meet with prospective parents, share their experience of the school, and help families considering Fayerweather understand what daily life is like for our students.

Advancement Ambassadors

Families partner with the school's advancement work in several ways: as annual giving classroom ambassadors who encourage participation among their grade band, as Big Night Out committee members who help plan our annual fundraising evening, and as Word of Mouth Ambassadors who share their love of Fayerweather with prospective families through their own networks. Training is available for all of these roles.

Alum League & Class Agents

Fayerweather alums remain part of our community well after graduation. We hold reunion events throughout the year, including an Alum Night at the Unit Play. For information on alum engagement, email us.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Beyond the PCA, families volunteer with Board committees, the Library Committee, Extended Day program support (Chess, Coding, Soccer), Caregiver Affinity Groups, and a range of school traditions including All School Meeting, Community Service Day, Project Day, the Pride March, the Pop-Up Gallery, and Staff Appreciation.
