Art
Art Book-Making
Books do not have to have words… Books can be made with pictures, collage, drawings, natural materials (like plants) and much more. In this class we will experiment with the idea of what qualifies as a book. We will use our creativity to expand our bookmaking skills! (Period 6)
Art Explosion
Try a little bit of everything in this dynamic class - painting, drawing, assemblage, collage. You’ll never be bored by this buffet of art offerings. (Period 3, 5)
Art Express
Art Express offers a variety of projects each week ranging from mobiles crafted from natural elements, shadow drawing outdoors, pattern designs, flat or 3D assemblages, fairy houses, collages of landscapes and more! (Period 1, 6)
Art Octopus
Unleash the resourcefulness and beauty of ART OCTOPUS. The Octopus is highly intelligent, adaptable and flexible. In this class, we will use those qualities to sculpt our dreams with textures and dimension and dip into the world of watercolor washes made from nature's palette. (Period 1)
Art Venture
This class is a flexible place to tap into your creative potential and make some fun art. The emphasis is on playing with different techniques and processes, from drawing, or collage, to painting and building as well as exploring the ideas you want to bring to life. (Period 5)
Boats & Rockets
This is a class for the creator that likes to see how things float and fly. You will be the creator of boats and rockets of the future. We will explore different ways of powering our creations. Some of our projects will be works of art, and some will be engineered to go! During the final week we will build and embellish model rockets, possibly launch them and then tinker with our creations to maximize their flight and touchdown. Cast away, set sail, and blast off! (Period 6)
Cartooning & Crazy Drawings
Toon in, take off, create all kinds of cartoons and comic books from your imagination. Be the hero of your own cartoonaverse! (Period 1, 2)
Clay
A fabulous way to use your fingers - squishing the mud, making gifts or creatures, practical or fantastical. You’ll be in charge of molding the clay, every day. Select one period. (Periods 1,2,3)
Create a Character
Is your head full of ideas for funny, heroic, exciting, or fascinating characters? In this class, you will use drawing, cartooning, writing, acting and animating to tell stories and bring your characters to life. You will create inspiring projects centered around your amazing creations - the sky’s the limit! (Period 2)
Design Your Mythical Worlds
Do you love Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Mythology? In this class we will create our own mythical worlds! This will include creating settings with our own unique wildlife, buildings, languages and more, as well as designing characters and creatures to live in our worlds. Possible projects include collaging fantastic settings, designing clothes and accessories for characters, and creating mythical beasts. (Period 5)
Face Painting Festival
(Ages 8-11) In this class we will explore the colorful universe of face painting! With a new topic each day, we will practice using face paint and our creativity to turn faces into fantasy worlds! From animals to superheroes to magical creatures, we will learn new techniques and work together to create face painting masterpieces. (Period 5)
Fairytales, Folktales, and Myths
Whether it be Cinderella or Hercules— old stories and characters have survived to the modern day by being told and retold again and again. In this class, we will revitalize these stories by creating art and writing inspired by them. We’ll cover creation myths, tarot cards, fables, monsters and heroes’ journeys— the only limit is your imagination! (Period 3)
How to Draw Anything
Build real drawing skills in this hands-on art class! You will learn how to sketch what you see, from objects to places to people, shade with graphite and charcoal, and experiment with watercolor and other classic art materials. Through guided lessons and creative projects, you will strengthen observation, technique, and confidence. Perfect for young artists who want to level up their art skills. (Period 6)
Jewelry Making
A universe of materials come together to create exquisite jewelry and other wearable art. Learn to use tools and techniques to make your own magnificent art pieces. (Periods 5)
Making Comics and Manga
This class is all about the art of comic storytelling! How do you set up a punchline? How do you draw an action scene? We’ll explore everything from newspaper strips to webtoons to anime and manga. (Period 6)
Paper Wings
Want to craft fantastical dragons from a single sheet of paper? Or design soaring cardboard gliders and floating helium airships? In this class, we’ll start by learning the origami paper-folding skills behind these crafts. Then we’ll explore more advanced origami and lightweight flying machines based on your wishes and interests. Take off with us on this artistic, aerial adventure. (Period 3)
Printmaking T-Shirts & More
In this class we will draw on linoleum, carve it, and print designs on paper, T-shirts, or sweatshirts. We will also learn how to do mono prints and multi layered prints. (Period 3)
Puzzles, Mazes & More
In this class we will explore the exciting world of puzzles, including tricky riddles, mind-bending mazes, and thrilling escape rooms. But that's not all – you'll also learn how to create your own puzzles and challenge your fellow campers to solve them! This is your chance to show off your problem-solving skills, think outside the box, and have a blast with your new friends. (Period 5)
Tiny World
There seems to be a housing shortage for fairies, gnomes, elves, trolls and leprechauns. They need cozier dwellings, factories for their cookie business and better farm stands. In this class we will design and build tiny dwellings and vehicles for the little folk of your imagination, along with miniature furniture and accessories to top it all off. (Period 2)
Dance
Dance Company
Love to dance? Can’t sit still? Be a member of the Summer Arts Dance Company and have original choreography created just for you. We will explore both technique and improvisation. Previous dance experience is suggested. (Period 1, Ages 12-15) (Period 2, All Ages)
Musical Theatre Dance
Want to learn dances from Broadway shows? Come join this class and learn different musical theater styles and choreography from Broadway shows such as West Side Story, All That Jazz, Hamilton and many more! (Period 5)
Yoga
Come stretch your mind and body. Learn yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. This is a great way to end the day. Bring serenity to your Summer Arts experience! (Period 6)
Drama
Dungeons & Dragons
(Ages 10-15) Dungeons & Dragons has been a beloved tabletop roleplaying game since the 1970s, offering an escape from the chaotic duties of life by replacing them with a fantastical realm that is (arguably) much more chaotic than ours. Over three weeks, we will learn about the basic rules and player etiquette, create characters, paint minis, and engage in an epic adventure that we create together. Prior experience is recommended, but not necessary, as long as you’re ready to learn! Since this will be a smaller class, make sure you’re ready to give it your all! (Period 5)
Fairy Tale Mystery Makeover
Let’s take out those good old fairy tales and scramble them up. Let’s turn up the heat, add a little special sauce, a solid dose of imagination and see what we’ve got. There are a million mysteries in the Fairy Tale Universe and we’re on the case. Once we’ve turned some tales inside out, we’ll perform our findings (devised plays) with special props/sets we create ourselves to enhance our story. Bring your favorite stories, an inquiring mind, and your magnifying glass. (Period 1)
Improv Troupe
(Ages 9-15) - Welcome to our Improv Troupe! Let your creativity and imagination soar in this fun and entertaining class. Learn how to think on your feet and create spontaneous scenes with your fellow classmates. Bring a big smile, a silly attitude, and be ready to have a blast as you master the art of improvisation. You'll be able to show off your skills in our Noontime Shows and make your friends and family laugh until their sides hurt! Join us now and get ready to laugh your way to a great time! (Period 5)
Playwriting
Learn how to write plays, screenplays and more! Spend time working on writing short plays and movie scenes, bringing the story in your brain to life on the page! (Period 6)
The Summer Arts Musical
(Ages 9-15) - Calling all actors and singers for a collaborative, creative approach to theatre-making. Join us in a performance which will be shared with friends and family at the end of each session. Come prepared for low-key auditions on the first day; bring a monologue or poem to read and a song to sing (it can be 'Happy Birthday!'). NOTE: You must sign up for Periods 2 and 3. (Periods 2 & 3)
Soap Opera: The True Lives of Fresh Pond
Do you have a taste for the dramatic? How about the overdramatic? In this class we will create characters that inhabit the ordinary neighborhood of Fresh Pond, and the endless drama that ensues! The ongoing saga will be filmed and shared at the noontime show. We will "Tune in Next Time'' to find out what happens. (Period 3)
Stage Makeup
(Ages 10-15) - Express your creativity in a different way! In Stage Makeup, we’ll explore makeup looks from fairies to zombies. With a new theme each day, you’ll be able to try many different styles of stage makeup. (Period 6)
Media
3D Computer Model
Ever wondered how video game worlds, CGI, and Pixar movies are made? In this class, campers will use Blender, a free, professional-grade software to design their own 3D objects, characters, and mini worlds on the computer. Students will learn how to shape, color, and light their creations, then render them into awesome final images they can share. (Period 1)
Animation Jam
(Ages 9-15) - Flipbooks, computers, and puppets, oh my! In Animation Jam, we will dive headfirst into the vast realm of animated media. We will learn techniques in stop motion, character construction, digital animation, and hand-drawn flipbooks in order to demonstrate just how many ways animation can be created. We will also engage in collaborative projects with the whole class and push the boundaries of what materials we can use. (Period 5)
Computer Animation
(Ages 9-15) - If you like to draw, animate, or come up with crazy cartoon creations, computer animation is the class for you! We’ll learn all the necessary digital tools for doing some super fun animation and experimentation! (Period 6)
Digital Photography
Do you like taking pictures? In this class you will learn how to take pictures with your digital camera that you never knew you or your camera could take! Learn the basics of Photoshop and photo editing to create unique, eye-catching images. Over the course of this class, we will create compelling slideshows for the whole world to see! (Periods 2, 3)
Fayerweather News Network (FNN)
Enter the world of television news at the broadcast home of the Fayerweather Phoenix! Over the course of 3 weeks, you will report on stories about camp life, while learning how to write scripts, interview sources on camera, gather footage and build a short newscast. Campers will become reporters, producers and news anchors as they work together to produce a 10-minute broadcast, which will be showcased at the end of the session. (Period 6)
Mockumentary
(Ages 10-15) - The audience will be aching with laughter but wondering what is real and what isn’t in this comedy film production. Fake or made-up events are presented in a “documentary” format. We will choose a topic, blend scripted and improvised interviews, shoot and edit our very own mockumentary that will keep the audience enthralled. (Period 5)
Movie Madness
Lights, Camera, Action! In this class we will be creating our own movie. It can be a mystery, comedy, action adventure, news show, parody, sketch, commercial or mockumentary. You can be the director, writer and actor in this movie extravaganza. (Period 1)

Summer Shorts
The last Avengers movie was 3 hours long. In our opinion, that’s overdoing it by about 2 hours and 58 minutes. In this class we will explore making quick, funny, absurd video sketches based on YOUR ideas! We will produce a series of short, wacky videos over the course of the session and share them in the Noontime show as we go! Parodies, commercials, sketches… it’s all on the table in Summer Shorts! Bring your most ridiculous ideas, your excitement to be on camera, and love of all things short and funny. (Period 2)
Music
A Capella
(Ages 10-15) - If you love to sing showtunes, modern, pop, rock, R&B, and jazz music, you will love A Cappella. We will perform arrangements in which the voices provide all of the music. Listening to a variety of amazing vocal groups, we will study intricate harmonies and work as an ensemble to make fantastic music together. This class will perform at the Noontime Shows. Previous experience is helpful but not required. (Period 6)
Cover Band Twist
Have you ever wondered if “Hey Jude” could make a good country song? If the bones of a thrash-metal banger can be found in Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”? Then this is the class for you! In this band class, we will take beloved classic songs, reimagine them in brand new styles and genres, and perform them for the whole camp at noontime shows! Together we will discover what goes into creating a memorable cover and push the boundaries of genre to their breaking point. Minimum two years’ experience on your instrument. Please specify your instrument on your sign-up sheet! All instruments are welcome. (Period 1)
Funk, Jazz & Blues
Come join our premier jazz, funk, and blues band where we will perform some of genres’ top hits! Not only will we perform groovy tunes in front of our biggest fans, but you will also get to learn and practice improvisation on your instruments! Minimum of two years of experience on your instrument. All instruments are welcome to join and please specify your instrument on the class sign-up sheet. (Period 6)
Guitar Workshop
Do you want to learn a Beatles’ tune on guitar? This class is for beginners and intermediates who want to learn techniques and lots of tunes. Just bring your guitar and your enthusiasm! Even Jimi Hendrix had to start somewhere. We have a limited number of instruments available for those without guitars. (Period 3)
Planet Rock
Come play in a band! We will play all kinds of popular music including indie, rock, folk, hip hop, classic rock and more. Plus, we’ll have the opportunity to hit the stage and play at the Noontime Shows. This year we will also be taking some of our favorite songs and create new versions by mashing them together and have wild new covers to be performed live! Beginners on any instrument can be a part of this adventure. Please specify your instrument on the class sign-up sheet. (Period 5)
Rockacity
This is Summer Arts’ “house band” where young, experienced rockers get to jam out on all the top hits of rock history. Plus, we get to showcase our band and perform at the Noontime Shows! Minimum two years of practice on your instrument. Specify your instrument on the class sign-up sheet. (Period 2)

Game On!
If you like to run around and play games, then this class is for you. In Game On! we can play Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Capture the Flag, Dr. Dodgeball, Ultimate Football, Kickball, Dr. Ultimate Flagball and Steal the Bacon, among many others. Learn how to play new games while also playing some of your old favorites. Every day brings new and exciting group games. Ready, set, GAME ON! Select one Period. (Periods 2, 3)
Hoops
Have fun improving your basketball skills through drills, small games and scrimmages. We will combine court games with fun exercises to make HOOPS exciting and fresh every day. (Period 5)
Soccer Plus
Have fun working on your soccer skills and playing a variety of games in a supportive environment. Daily warm-ups and exercises can lead to full field scrimmages. Be part of the most popular sport in the world! (Period 1)
Textiles
Fashion Design
(Ages 10-15) - Design your own clothing from scratch. Anything is possible! Each student will work on their own fashion designs and present them at the Noontime Show. Strike a pose wearing your creation. Previous sewing experience strongly encouraged. (Period 1)
Sculpture Weaving
In this sculpture weaving class students will have the opportunity to create their own unique works of art by exploring basic weaving techniques like coiling and learning how to weave using a looming kit. They'll work with a variety of materials, including yarns, ribbons, reeds, ropes, and more, to craft dynamic and textured sculptures. (Period 3)
Trash to Treasure: Crafting Wearable Art
From Upcycled Materials! Using upcycled materials like newspapers, cardboard, beads, plastics, and fishing nets, students will transform everyday objects into stunning, one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces, combining creativity with sustainability. (Period 2)
Soft Monsters
Let your imagination run wild! Foam and fabric, fangs and claws, fur and fuzziness, paint and elastic – monsters and creatures will come to life. We will draw, pattern and build our own soft sculptures. Where are the wild things? In the Textiles Room! (Period 6)
