Centering voices and stories is a tradition that exists across cultures and beyond recorded time. Institutions now carry on this responsibility. What’s the story inside your box?
These were the questions asked at this year's Middle School Students of Color Conference. Fayerweather Street School had nine students attend this year conference in which they enjoyed Keynote speaker Jerry Craft, author and illustrator of New Kid. Each student also received a signed copy of his book at the end of the day. It was a rewarding day seeing students immerse in various workshops that examined our stories and how are we showing up at our school. Some of the workshops were African Drumming, Black Girl Magic, Classical Indian Dance, Code-Switching and Masking, We are the Same, We are Diverse, and White Allyship to name a few. Extra thanks to Tia and Maureen for being chaperones to this great conference. We look forward to it every year!
