At Fayerweather, we recognize that the summer break provides valuable time for students to recharge, pursue their interests, and create lasting memories with their families. As a school, we support these goals while also recognizing the importance of maintaining academic progress and preventing learning loss. We also acknowledge that different families have distinct goals and priorities for their children during the summer months. For some families, summer break can be seen as an opportunity to take a clear break from the academic focus of the school year and explore new and different experiences. Other families may choose to reinforce academic skills and maintain a sense of continuity in their child's learning. Our summer homework policy seeks to provide the necessary encouragement and resources to ensure that students have a
well-rounded and enriching summer experience while allowing families flexibility.

At Fayerweather we are committed to keeping our school affordable to families of different economic means, believing that socio-economic diversity is an important component of our mission. We work closely with each family to do our best to make tuition and a Fayerweather education within reach for as many applicants as possible. Extracurricular activities and extended care are pro-rated at approximately the same level as tuition. In the 2020-2021 school year, Fayerweather allocated more than $1,200,000 to a program of need-based tuition assistance. This year 30% of the student body will receive tuition assistance. The average aid amount is approximately $21,000.

Human Rights & Current Events
Turning on the news lately can be challenging. There is so much change happening all at once, I find it challenging to wrap my head around the daily events, both in the US and around the world. I often find myself wondering how to teach current events with my students, particularly when I am having difficulty keeping up not only with what is happening, but how I feel about it all. When events from the outside world come up in class, there is a wide variety of student awareness and interest. Some students are passionately following politics and what is happening, and others never look at the news. I spent a couple of months trying to figure out how to appropriately teach students to be aware of what is going on without introducing my personal beliefs or politics.Read More -
Meet Anna, Fayerweather's New PreK-4 STEM Specialist
Read MoreMy name is Anna Grant and I am the new PreK-4 STEM teacher! The opportunity to build this program with the support of the Fayerweather community has been nothing short of a dream come true.I am originally from the Philadelphia area, where I began my career in science education as a staff educator and exhibit manager at a natural history museum. I enjoyed encouraging visitors of all ages to embrace their curiosity for the natural world through themed events, tours of the collections, and teaching classes for visiting schools. But, after a few years of the one-off educational experiences, I realized that I wanted to turn my focus to teaching a more in-depth science curriculum to the same students over time in a school community. Learning and growing with my students as a lower school science specialist teacher for the past 5 years has been incredibly rewarding and I am just so thrilled to share my passion for science education here at Fayerweather. -
Meet Garrett, Fayerweather's New Marketing & Communications Manager
Read MoreHello! My name is Garrett, and while you may have seen my name around, I’m excited to introduce myself as Fayerweather’s new Marketing & Communications Manager. I joined the FSS community this summer, and it’s been a truly joyous whirlwind learning about Fayerweather and its traditions, practices, and history. I’ve had quite the fun time meeting all of my new colleagues, the Fayerweather families, and of course, the absolutely delightful students who roam the halls. (I’ve also had the distinct honor of having the nickname “Garrett the Carrot” bestowed on me by the precocious Kindergarten class, a name I wholeheartedly embrace, since it’s one that’s actually followed me from my youth as a ginger-headed kiddo. The class was excited to learn that I even have socks with a carrot emoji embroidered on them!)My personal and professional journey to joining the Fayerweather family is anything but direct. I grew up nowhere near here in a small mountain town in North Idaho, raising pigs for 4-H and wandering the woods on my family’s tree farm. I have lived, studied, and worked in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas, Seattle, and Massachusetts. I’ve held a wide range of jobs, including Forest Service timber crew member, substitute teacher, psychosocial rehabilitation specialist, professional student, tenured writing professor, and communications director. One of my favorite “through-lines” in this timeline is the constant reconnection to education and learning, so when the opportunity presented itself to combine my interests in communications and education in a progressive environment like Fayerweather, I enthusiastically said "Yes!" -
