A Fayerweather education prepares our students for a wide range of high school options. Local independent high schools delight in our students’ love of learning, their ability to question and reflect, and their strong written communication skills. Our Next Schools Coordinator works with eighth grade students and their families to identify their best options for high school; whether it is an independent school or one of our excellent local public school districts.
Our Next Schools process is unique and comprehensive. It helps families identify the academic environment and demands with which their child will be comfortable, the logistics and financial aspects of potential schools and the community in which the entire family can thrive. We address all aspects of the admissions process from SSAT prep, to student interviews and advocacy for students placed on wait lists.
Specific elements of our program include:
In-house SSAT prep classes taught by Fayerweather staff
Consultation with the Next Schools Coordinator in large group and family meetings
Access to in-depth knowledge of independent and local public school systems
Informal lunches with admissions staff from independent schools, allow students to interact in a low stress environment, increasing the potential for successful, formal interviews
Small group interview training for eighth graders with the option for more intensive one-on-one practice, if desired
FSS organized panel discussions with recent graduates to gain a greater sense of the culture of different schools
Coordination of recommendations from teachers and administrators
Advocacy for students on wait lists at their school of choice
Fayerweather fully prepared me for high school while providing me with a supportive, caring community where I could be myself. -Fayerweather Graduate
Each year, our 8th grade graduates compose an original speech, in a wide range of styles, about their experience at Fayerweather. This student created a spoken word poem.
