A Message from Lauren Mueller, Director of Lower School (Grades PreK-4)

I’m writing to share how honored and excited I am to step into the role of Director of the Lower School (PreK–4). For the past 18 years, Fayerweather has been a central part of my life, professionally as an educator and personally as a parent of a joyful and thriving FSS graduate. I spent 12 of those years in the classroom, guided by a love of learning and a belief that schools should be places of both joy and purpose. Over time, my focus expanded beyond the classroom as I began supporting colleagues as a coach and collaborator, most recently serving as the Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning. Through every chapter of my work here, one belief has remained constant: that education is built on relationships, trust, and a shared commitment to growth.

In my new role, I’ll be working closely with our PreK-4 teaching teams to guide curriculum, coordinate daily operations, and partner with families in support of a joyful, inclusive school experience. I will also coordinate school-wide curriculum documentation and review and serve on the School Leadership Team, helping to shape the vision and identity of the school. A key part of my work will be collaborating with teachers to foster a positive and inclusive culture for students, while also focusing on the full arc of the PreK-4 journey to ensure coherence, purpose, and joy in every student’s experience. All of this work happens in close partnership with the Head of School and Educational Leadership Team to align curriculum and community practices across divisions and uphold our shared commitment to progressive, mission-driven education.

At the heart of this work is a desire to support a culture where both students and teachers thrive. I strive to be an approachable, reflective leader who values transparency, curiosity, and strategic thinking. I’m eager to partner with you in service of your children and to build on the strong foundation we already share.

There will be opportunities this fall to connect in person, and I hope to meet with many of you during dedicated times in September. I’d love to hear your perspectives, hopes for the year ahead, and ideas for how we can continue building a Lower School experience full of meaning and joy.
