For 50 years, Fayerweather Street School has been a leader among Cambridge private schools. Fayerweather’s founders envisioned a school that sought out ways of educating children which were innovative, respectful of each child’s ideas and opinions and incorporated the valuable role that families and communities play.
As you read about our programs, visit classrooms and talk with students and teachers, you will experience the qualities that distinguish Fayerweather. When you enter our school, you will immediately sense the excitement and joy that permeates our building. Even before classroom doors open in the morning, you will find students in the library, reading books, chatting with friends and parents about their latest creation in shop, or engaged in a lively game of chess.
On a typical day, you might find our youngest students gathered outside around our learning garden, while third and fourth graders might be adding finishing touches to their newly created earthquake-proof buildings. Down the hall, our middle schoolers might be continuing a discussion on American Identity as the basis to better understand their study of immigration.
Our faculty are highly skilled and caring and our class sizes small, allowing us to respond fully to the needs and interests of each student. Throughout the learning process, there is a profound respect for each child’s thoughts and work, honoring individuality while also supporting the value of collaboration within the group. We facilitate opportunities for learning that allow students to grapple with complex problems, developing their capacity to be deep and flexible thinkers. Simultaneously, we integrate the importance of character development and social justice, as well as personal and group well-being.
We see you as an important partner in your child’s education. We encourage you to participate in the life of the school at all levels, from the classroom to the boardroom, in order to experience the collaborative, creative life of this community.
We look forward to hearing from you to set up a time to visit and experience the Fayerweather difference first-hand .
