Preparing for a Year of Compassion, Capacity, and Curiosity

Kim Ridley, Head of School
Dear Fayerweather Families,

Another school year is upon us, and as always, summer seems to pass far too quickly. I hope you found moments to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends. For me, this season has been a time to step back, reflect, and return with renewed gratitude and energy for the year ahead.

The 2025–2026 school year will look different in many ways. Schools across the country are facing shifting enrollment and broader political, economic, environmental, and cultural changes that bring new challenges and opportunities. At Fayerweather, we are leaning into these realities with creativity and care, confident that our mission will continue to guide us.
Many of you have seen the news about another tragic school shooting. We discussed our concerns for school communities during our staff meeting today. Events like this underscore the importance of our shared commitment to creating a secure and safe environment at Fayerweather.  Please take a moment to review our security protocols below, as your partnership helps keep our students and staff safe.

  • Check in at the main office. For the safety of our students and staff, all visitors are required to enter through the main entrance (Concord Avenue). Our team will kindly direct caregivers there, and all other doors will remain locked and secured. If you need assistance or accessibility support, please contact the main office, and we’ll be happy to help. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Don’t hold or prop doors. Kindly direct anyone without a badge to the main office.

  • Arrival & dismissal. Use designated pick up and drop off zones; follow staff directions, drive slowly, and avoid phone use.

  • Late arrivals/early pickups. Students always go to the front office first to check in.

  • Authorized pickup only. Keep emergency contacts current and make sure all of your information is updated in Veracross/MyFSS.

  • Emergency communications. Ensure your phone/email is current; during drills/incidents, await instructions before coming to school.

  • See something, say something. Report hazards, concerning behavior, or suspicious activity to the front office immediately.

  • Extended Day. Please ring the Extended Day doorbell and kindly wait outside for your children, unless otherwise directed.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students and staff safe.

What remains steady during these unstable times is our deep commitment to your children: to educate the whole child, to cultivate joy in learning, and to prepare them to engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Our students will continue to experience a curriculum and school community that affirms their worth, expands their perspectives, and helps them grow as compassionate, capable, and curious learners.

As we begin this new year together, I look forward to welcoming your children back on September 2 for a Welcome Back Celebration and on September 3 for the first day of school. Thank you for your partnership and trust as we continue to nurture a community that values identity, celebrates difference, and prioritizes humanity in all that we do.

In partnership,

Kim
