In this 3-hour workshop, we will focus on the art of the short story, and participants will leave with a solid grasp of the basic elements of this genre, as well as a plan of action for crafting their own. In the first hour, we will discuss and anatomize a classic example of the form; in the second, participants will engage in guided writing prompts designed to generate ideas about character, setting, plot, tone, etc. In the third, participants will focus on narrating a scene of their own, with opportunities to share their work with the larger group.
