How To Make a Virtual Graduation in 3 Steps (or more)
Graduation is a very special and important moment in a student’s life. Whether they are moving up from one grade to another, or one of the larger transitions from grade school to high school. It is a time of change, excitement, uncertainty, possibility, and of course, anxiety.
Now let’s add a pandemic on top of that…
The FSS community became accustomed to working and learning remotely with fantastic patience and flexibility. We have already mentioned the many FSS traditions that were adapted for a distance model. While we could not be together in person, Unit teachers, and Fayerweather staff set out to make graduation as special as possible for the class of 2020.
Building Community from a Distance
To help pump up the 8th grade students and grow some school spirit, teachers and staff crafted some ‘grad bags’ to be delivered to each family in a socially distant way. This let families fly their FSS spirit proudly in their own homes.
Setting the stage...literally
Many alum will recall their graduation speech; an annual tradition where students write their final thoughts and deliver to the school community at graduation. Keeping this tradition alive was a primary concern for families, teachers, and (most) students.
