I was trembling as I carefully stepped over all the cords and wires to the piano. I hoped I wouldn’t mess them up and become the center of attention for ruining the show. Wiping my hands again, I sat down, and tried to focus on my music so that people wouldn’t notice I was shaking. It was too late to back out. My hands jittered as they stretched to reach the keys. I started the song with Eli on bass and I remember the raw intro before others chimed in. It was a blur from then on. The next thing I knew, I was floating out of the bar, surrounded by cheers from the audience. This was my introduction to being a musician, and also my eleven-year-old band concert for Fayerweather. This music performance was just one of many projects and activities that FSS had to offer. Had I been at a different school, I might have not had the option or the confidence to play in a bar. At Fayerweather the academics were serious, but the specials, trips, extracurriculars and the way we look forward to them were what made it special.
