We had just seen Stomp in the East Village and our hotel was in Times Square. Jenn decided that she wanted to walk with anyone who wanted to come along. Once we started, we realized we didn’t know where we were going. Jenn said, “You guys are the Unit students, you can lead us back.” Without a map. Or a cell phone. We knew the hotel was north and if we headed in that direction we would eventually get there. We were the teachers in charge of getting ourselves back safely. While I’d been to NY, I’d never been out on the streets at 11:00 at night. Teo and I were the leaders and as we walked, my confidence grew. Because of the lessons Fayerweather taught me for 10 years we found our way home. As I leave Fayerweather, I don’t know exactly where I am going, but I know I will find my way eventually because just like in New York, Fayerweather has guided me north in the right direction.
