February DECC Meeting Recap

At the February DECC meeting we discussed concrete ways that, as white people who care about anti-racism, we can work to mitigate the "invisible tax" on educators and families of color.
A 2016 article by John King talks about achieving this goal through a more diverse teaching force: "More and more research shows that diversity isn't just a nicety - it's a real contributor to better outcomes in our schools, workplaces, and communities." You can reach the full article here: Invisible Tax.

Please join us next month on Monday March 16 for an activity led by Kim, "Indigenous Introductions," from Restorative Justice work. The questions we will be exploring are, "How do our stories influence what we see and understand about others?" "How can we better leverage our stories to fight for racial justice?" All are welcome!

Did you know there is a DECC Group.io? This subgroup is intended as a gathering place for resources related to the work DECC (Diversity, Equity, and Community Committee) is doing. We will be posting articles, videos, and other links related to this work, as well as recaps of past meetings and agendas for upcoming meetings. We encourage everyone to take a look, see what we are doing, and join the conversation. We also welcome any and all interested families to join us in person at our meetings and events.
