We are all unique, and we each learn in different ways. At Fayerweather we excel at individualized instruction tailored to the strengths and challenges of each child. We also teach students how to identify their own learning style and what works best for them. We recognize that students benefit from additional individualized instruction outside the classroom with teachers who have specific training in specialized methodologies. To that end, we have four resource teachers dedicated to supporting students beyond the classroom.

In first and second grades, our focus is devoted to ensuring all children have a solid foundation for the fundamentals of being a successful reader. Resource teachers in third through sixth grades work with students both in and outside the classroom supporting them with organization, study skills and academic content in all areas of the curriculum. Students in seventh and eighth grades begin the year with a course called Developing Academic Skills and Habits (DASH) designed to support students with the skills to best approach the increased workload of middle school. Seventh and eighth grade students who benefit from extra time and individualized support also take a skills class, in lieu of Spanish, which is designed to give additional time and guidance to their regular classroom work.

Resource teachers work closely with the classroom teachers when developing a program for each child and are in close contact with parents throughout the school year. Formal assessments are used to track progress, and the results are shared with parents at parent-teacher conferences and with progress reports.
