Fayerweather Street School has a long history of creating and maintaining an inclusive, welcoming and safe environment for all members of its community, including students, parents, faculty and staff. We believe that prevention is key when working to address issues around safety, bullying, and social dynamics. This approach includes an extensive Growth Education program, close relationships among teachers and students, individual check-ins with our counselor, our social-emotional curriculum and a large ratio of teachers to students. It also includes professional development regarding creating safe spaces and inclusive classroom environments, including the use of Responsive Classroom and Development Designs. We also offer parent education opportunities about developmental and social milestones.

Fayerweather’s mission statement includes many references to valuing and creating a socially, emotionally and physically safe environment for all students and their families. We strive to meet this mission through a multipronged approach. Fayerweather works hard to ensure that all students, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, race, ethnicity, or learning differences, feel safe and integrated into the community. Aspects of the PreK through eighth grade curriculum focus on multiculturalism and perceived differences, in order to encourage our students to continue to be more open-minded and accepting. Our counselor also meets with students regularly and can help monitor social dynamics and intervene when necessary. Our anti-bullying plan details the thoughtful and diligent ways we work to prevent and address issues that may arise.
