  • Art Teacher for PK-8 (‘24-’25 School Year)

    Description: 
    Fayerweather seeks a passionate and experienced Art Teacher to instruct students in grades PK-8 for the 2024-25 school year. This teacher will offer art to each grade band of students once a week, including a longer seventh and eighth-grade elective on Thursday afternoons. The art teacher is also responsible for maintaining the art room space and the supplies needed for the program. This teacher will be a member of and collaborate with the Specialists Team (Music, Shop, PE, Library, and Spanish). This position will begin in the fall of the 2024-25 academic year.

    The main goal of the Fayerweather art program is for students to cultivate resilience through trial and error of creative problem-solving processes in the safe and encouraging environment of art making, where there are no right or wrong ways of expressing imaginative thought. Students explore their creative potential through various media, techniques, and materials. Some projects are integrated with classroom studies, and others are designed to encourage exploration and experimentation. Students in the seventh and eighth grades pursue art through electives and can delve deeply into disciplines such as sculpture, oil painting, or design challenges (co-taught with the Shop teacher). Since a personalized approach in art making is encouraged, students must learn to accomplish this by developing good communication skills, such as asking for the appropriate materials, asking for help and feedback, and collaborating with classmates successfully.

  • Assistant Head of School (starting July 2024)

    Description: 

    The Assistant Head is a central and important position to the work and success of Fayerweather Street School. The Assistant Head works in close partnership with the Head of School to advance the school’s mission and achieve educational and operational goals. The position will report directly to the Head of
    School and will have primary supervisory and oversight responsibility for the academic program.

    Candidates should be familiar with progressive education including multi-age classrooms, thematic, emergent, and anti-bias curricula, and differentiated instruction. The Assistant Head will represent the Head of School as needed at meetings or functions within and outside the Fayerweather community. In
    consultation with the Head, this position will set the direction for the academic program, including long-term planning, curricular design, scope and sequence, and the evaluation and professional development of teachers. The Assistant Head of School serves as the counsel and collaborator with the Head of School. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

    Main Responsibilities:
    • Represent the interests of and assist in implementing the plans and initiatives established by the Head of School.
    • Serve as the Head of School’s point person for creating a healthy staff culture and identifying curricular and programmatic needs of the school.
    • Build strong relationships with teaching staff within and assist them in articulating the school’s mission and strategic initiatives.
    • In close collaboration with the Head of School, oversee curriculum, assuring responsiveness to student needs and interests; manage the vertical integration of the curriculum ensuring excellence in all disciplines in alignment with the mission and strategic plan goals.
    • Oversee teacher professional development and evaluation.
    • Oversee Educational Leadership Team, and serve as a member of the School Leadership and Enrollment Management Teams.
    • Attend all board meetings
    • Provide supervision and evaluation of direct reports: Director of Technology, Academic Support Staff, Extended Day Coordinators, and the School Counselor.
    • Manage the professional development budget.
    • Oversee the AISNE accreditation review processes.
    • Strategically design professional development programs, including new faculty orientations, and Grade Level Team Leader meetings.
    • Lead and coordinate hiring processes.
    • Supervise the development and management of the academic school calendar, and class schedules.
    • Attend team meetings and parent conferences as needed
    • Contribute meaningfully to efforts in admissions, advancement, finance, operations, and long-term planning with the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
    • Serve as Acting Head in the Head of Schools's absence.
    Skills and Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree (preferred) in a related field that supports the duties and responsibilities of this position. Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Four to eight years of organizational, management, administrative experience.
    • Demonstrate significant school leadership and classroom experience.
    • Experience in budget allocation and making informed financial decisions regarding the academic program.
    • Ability to recognize and articulate the long-term benefits of a PreK to 8th-grade education.

    Description: We seek an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Spanish Teacher to join our Extended-Day school program starting September 2024. This position is part-time and will be taught twice weekly. The stipend for the class is commensurate with experience.     Description:
    We are seeking energetic and creative educators to teach PreK-2nd grade or 3rd-8th grade during our extended day program. The teacher will work collaboratively with other extended day teachers to keep children safe and engaged in projects that align with the mission of the school, and in turn, the extended day program.

In addition, this position offers a lunch/recess choral group to elementary students and hosts occasional classroom performances for parent events.     Music in PreK and K should be a joyful music-making experience that focuses on the fundamentals of music education: rhythm and melody. In each class, children should have a chance to sing, dance, and explore rhythm instruments and musical props, all while building a solid foundation of basic musical skills.
