SummerTime at Fayerweather
|
|
June 14, 2010 - July 2, 2010
SummerTime at Fayerweather is a creative arts program for children ages 5 through
14. The program runs from June 14th through to July 2nd. SummerTime is designed to provide
children with time to explore and learn in a creative, supportive and fun atmosphere.
Areas of study or "workshops" as they are called, include studio arts, music, drama,
dance, sports and film (for older students.)
SummerTime Arts Program - entering grades K-5th
This year we are thrilled to announce that each week of our program will feature
a different, well-known visiting artist along with visual arts and crafts, woodshop,
sports and game activities. In each session, children will enjoy discovering new
ways to express themselves and develop skills through artistic play, storytelling,
music and the visual arts.
Our Visiting Artist schedule includes:
- Week one - Bobby Brown creates projects with recycled materials.
- Week two - Alastair Moock leads musical workshops.
- Week three - Willy Claflin teaches storytelling and performance skills
SummerTime Film Program - entering grades 5-8
We welcome back Freddie Wiss, who will be using still and video photography to introduce
digital storytelling. Individual and collaborative efforts are encouraged through
the creation of short films using iMovie. The skills of animation, developing screenplays,
making storyboards, computerized editing, designing and building sets and props,
and making costumes allow for wonderful opportunities to have fun while using video
technology. Although much time is dedicated to film projects, older students will
also patticipate in other SummerTime activities throughout the day.
Open Workshop
A favorite element of our SummerTime program is Open Workshop. Each day after lunch,
kids across age levels have the opportunity to join in a variety of changing activities. Previous
projects have included cookie making, water games, ultimate frisbee and rockwall
climbing. It can also be a time for quiet, restful activities.
