March is library month at Fayweather. We launch it with a Come as Your Favorite Book Character All School Meeting. All age groups participate in a crazy collection of books and characters.
In the weeks that follow the librarians and library committee hold a book fair and a book drive to collect books for Reach Out and Read and the Boston Housing Authority. Children's book authors and illustrators visit every classroom. This year Gace Lin presented her book Ugly Vegetables to the Kindergarten and 1st & 2nd grades. Marge Bruchak visited the 3rd & 4th grades, Deb Noyes visited the 5th & 6th grades and Marcella Pixley visited the Unit.
Parents and guests enjoyed an adult literary reading to benefit the library. This year our reader was Jenna Blum author of Those who Save Us. In the past, readers have included Donald Hall, Gish Jen, Iyeoka Okoawo, and our own alum, Kate McGovern.
