The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms are filled with students’ enthusiasm
around making connections. Early Childhood years are formative in helping the children
learn to be part of a group, understand systems and routines of school life, and
gain a sense of themselves as learners. Curriculum is constructed around the children’s
interests, as they explore aspects of themselves, their family, and the world around
them. Routines around morning meeting, choice time, directed activities, outdoor
play, eating together and end of day meeting provide both structure and independence
in the day. Children have many opportunities to receive individual support as they
develop literacy, math and social skills, and pursue new challenges at their own
pace. Pre-Kindergarteners visit the Library and Music specialists and Kindergartners
visit the Art, Music, Library, Sports, and Woodshop specialists weekly. Both classrooms
have weekly visits from the Spanish teacher, building vocabulary through songs,
poems and games.
