Curriculum Overview
Meg & Kate's Class
"I wish I could go to Kindergarten three times because we get to make up some of our own choices and choose what we want to do, but at my old school the teachers always told us what to do."

We take our job of empowering your children as learners as one of our biggest tasks this year. We hope to expose them to a wide variety of experiences that somehow tap into their own natural curiosity and wonder about the world. They are curious! They are like sponges! We hope to build on the knowledge they have already. We feel like we throw the loop and watch where the children go with it. Having them know that our room is a practicing place where children feel nurtured and comfortable to take risk, to make mistakes and to feel mastery is important. A major part of the experience is about socialization and becoming a group, recognizing and celebrating differences among our community and learning more conflict resolution and peace strategies. We'd like to share with your some areas of our curriculum.

The cornerstone of our program is that it is developmentally based. Children are getting the opportunity to play and learn in ways that respond to their levels of growth. We want an environment where children feel safe to be themselves. Within this trusting community, children will work through issues that come up in the room with each other (ex. "It's getting too rough at recess, how can we make it better?"). We also hope to create an atmosphere alive with imagination where children can build a world of their own within the classroom. We want to empower the children to construct their own knowledge and become critical thinkers and to enjoy their new independence (at times you might not!).
