Every other year, Fayerweather fifth and sixth graders study Colonial
America. As a culminating project in December, they create a Colonial
Faire to teach the Fayerweather Community about what they have learned.
This project begins in November, when each student selects a trade or
topic to research. They complete an in-depth research project, and write
a final paper. They are then asked to design an interactive booth as a way
to share their newfound expertise with the larger community. The students and
their families then turn the Fayerweather gymnasium into the streets of a Colonial
Town, complete with shops and market stalls. In past years, on the morning of the
Faire, we have had tinsmiths, taverns, colonial gaols, printers, surgeon/barbers,
bakeries and even farms.
