"What is blood made out of?"
"What happens when I get sick?"
"Why is my hair red if parents' hair isn't?"
In preparation for
their Human Body Expo, DAO's third-and-fourth grade class worked hard to answer
these questions and others like them. Based on their own interests and curiousities,
each child identified a question to research. Starting with their own hypotheses,
the children used books, videos, and other research materials to test their ideas.
They wrote summaries to show their findings and created models to demonstrate
what they learned.
At the Human Body Expo on December 11, participating students
were able to field questions from parents, teachers, and fellow students about their projects.
We were all blown away by the depth of their knowledge and their ability to
improvise answers to unexpected questions.
