What is Tuition Assistance?
Tuition Assistance awards are funds the school sets aside each year to make Fayerweather
accessible to families who could not otherwise afford the tuition. Families who
demonstrate financial need are eligible. Tuition Assistance is designed to fill
the gap between the tuition and fees, and a family's ability to pay those costs.
Who is Eligible?
Families who demonstrate financial need are eligible for aid. Fayerweather uses
the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Princeton, NJ to help
determine the need and to distribute funds equitably. A family's ability to pay
tuition is determined by several factors, including household income, assets and
number of household members.
How Much Aid Gets Awarded?
Fayerweather awarded $554,719 in aid to 48 students for the 2007/2008 school year.
Of those 48 awards, 7 were to children new to Fayerweather. The average award was
$11,557.
What are Fayerweather's Policies for Awarding Aid?
Fayerweather has a commitment to continue aid for returning students whose families
remain within the eligibility guidelines. Once a student has enrolled in the school
and is receiving Tuition Assistance, Fayerweather tries to continue to meet the
family's Tuition Assistance needs. As family circumstances change, Tuition Assistance
awards are adjusted up or down accordingly. Our commitment to financial aid extends
to siblings of current students who will be entering Fayerweather. Families must
complete a Parent's Financial Statement (PFS), and a Business/Farm Statement, if
applicable. The PFS can be requested from the Business Office or Admissions Office,
or can be filed on-line at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.
For divorced or separated families, a second statement should be submitted. Only
the PFS form is submitted to SSS in Princeton. For the 2008-2009 school year, a
copy of the PFS (and the Business/Farm Statement, if applicable) must be submitted
to the Fayerweather Business Office, along with a copy of your 2007 W-2 form(s)
and your 2007 Federal Tax returns (including 1040 and all accompanying schedules)
by January 31st, 2008.
Fee Waivers.
The fee for submitting a PFS to SSS is $24. Fee waivers are available to prospective
families falling within the guidelines. To obtain fee waivers, a copy of your 2007
Federal Tax Return with a written request for a waiver must be submitted to FSS's
Business Manager, Susan Lutwak. The Business Office will mail you an SSS fee waiver
card, which is to be enclosed with your PFS. Application fees may also be waived
for qualifying families. Questions? Please call Susan Lutwak, Business Manager,
(617) 876-4746 ext. 715, or Cynthia Bohrer, ext. 703 with any questions regarding
Tuition Assistance. All Tuition Assistance information is strictly confidential.
