Welcome from the Head of the School

Welcome to the Fayerweather Street School! As you read about our programs, visit classrooms, and talk with current parents, you will experience first hand some of the qualities that distinguish Fayerweather. There is a sense of excitement and joy in learning, a profound respect for each child's thoughts and work that permeates all of the classrooms and interactions. Fayerweather's founding parents envisioned a school that would seek out innovative, effective ways of educating children, ways that respect each child's thinking while also valuing the role that families and communities play in their education. This founding vision continues as each generation of teachers, parents, and students brings creativity to the task of interpreting and shaping the school in its present context.

Because the school is small, the community close, and the faculty highly skilled and caring, we can respond fully to the needs of our diverse student body. Fayerweather students develop confidence in themselves, a mastery of basic skills, and a capacity for observation, reflection and interpretive thinking. Our graduates do well as they venture on, joining larger communities and schools (both independent and public) in the metropolitan area.

As parents, you are encouraged to participate in gatherings throughout the year, including class breakfasts, All School Meetings, field trips, and parent committees, to experience first hand the collaborative, creative life of this community. Please don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ed Kuh, Head of School
