All private schools have an Annual Fund to supplement tuition since tuition alone
does not cover the cost of education. The FSS Annual Fund fills the gap between
tuition and the costs incurred by Fayerweather in providing an education that truly
meets the individual needs of students. Fayerweather’s Annual Fund is used as part
of our operating budget. Gifts to the FSS Annual Fund ensure that students have
a variety of creative outlets including music, art and woodworking. They can play
sports or rock climb, read to listen to books, and create poetry or perform on stage.
The majority of funds are designated for Tuition Assistance. 27% of students receive
tuition assistance, which is very high but especially so for a school of our size
(200 students) and age (40 years old.) This year FSS has committed over $540,000
to Tuition Assistance for 53 students. Parent giving comprises the majority of donations
to the Annual Fund; the remaining gifts come from grandparents, staff, alumni families,
friends and the business community. Two-thirds of the families receiving Tuition
Assistance of 75% or more give to the Annual Fund.
