Younger Afterschool
In Younger Afterschool (YAS), we provide a warm and friendly environment to PreK through 2nd grade students, encompassing a variety of choices within a consistent structure. We emphasize and practice skills of physical and emotional safety, using polite and cooperative words and actions, personal responsibility, as well as fostering independent and creative thinking, and of course, having lots of fun!
Games, music, dress-up, blocks, drawing, and a variety of manipulatives provide many options for students. Each year we incorporate a theme to our weekly art projects such as different countries and cultures, animal habitats, and human habitats. Once a week a cooking or baking project provides our daily sit down snack which begins with our sign language snack poem.

Older Afterschool
The Older Afterschool program (OAS) provides an exciting student driven experience that expands upon the earlier grades and allows students more freedom to structure their afternoon based on their individual interests. The primary teachers in the program offer a variety of activities during the day, which can include sports, drama, art projects, cooking, dance and music. We also invite specialists to teach a subject in more detail, based on student interest. In the past these have included such subjects as Band, Fencing, Theater Improvisation, Weaving and Aikido. Parents can also arrange to have their child spend a portion of Afterschool time doing homework under the supervision of a teacher.
The Fayerweather Afterschool program is far more than just child care - many of our teachers have advanced education degrees. Through the combination of unique activity choices and relaxing downtime, we strive to create a fun and stimulating environment that is unique from the regular school day.
