Tuition Assistance

What is Tuition Assistance?
Tuition Assistance Awards are funds the school sets aside each year to make FSS accessible to families who could not otherwise afford the tuition. Families who demonstrate financial need are eligible. Tuition Assistance is designed to fill the gap between the tuition and fees, and a family's ability to pay those costs.

Who is Eligible?
Families who demonstrate financial need are eligible for aid. FSS uses the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Princeton, NJ to help determine the need and to distribute funds equitably. A family's ability to pay tuition is determined by several factors, including household income, assets and number of household members.

How much aid does Fayerweather award?
FSS awarded over $600,000 in aid to 53 students for the 2008-2009 school year. Of those 53 awards, 9 were to children new to FSS. The average award was $7,137.

What are Fayerweather's Policies for Awarding Aid?
FSS has a commitment to continue aid for returning students whose families remain within the eligibility guidelines. Once a student has enrolled in the school and is receiving Tuition Assistance, FSS tries to continue to meet the family's Tuition Assistance needs. As family circumstances change, Tuition Assistance awards are adjusted up or down accordingly. Our commitment to financial aid extends to siblings of current students who will be entering FSS.

How does a family apply for tuition assistance?
Families must complete a Parent's Financial Statement (PFS), and a Business/Farm Statement, if applicable. For divorced or separated families, a second statement should be submitted. Only the PFS form is submitted to SSS in Princeton. The Business/ Farm Statement should be submitted to the FSS Business Office. A copy of your PFS must be submitted to the FSS Business Office with a copy of your 2008 W-2 form and your 2007 Federal Tax returns (including 1040 and all accompanying schedules).

Fee Waivers.
The fee for submitting a PFS to SSS is $22. Fee waivers for the PFS are available to any prospective family falling within the guidelines. To obtain fee waivers, a copy of your 2007 Federal Tax Return with a written request for a waiver must be submitted to FSS's Business Manager, Susan Lutwak. The Business Office will mail you an SSS fee waiver card, which is to be enclosed with your PFS. Qualifying families may also waive their application fee.
